Speaker Bionote

Dr Laura F. Gumy is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Anatomy at the University of Otago, New Zealand. Her research combines neurobiology, cell biology, CRISPR technology development, advanced microscopy, quantitative image analysis and molecular genetics to investigate the mechanisms regulating intracellular trafficking, cytoskeletal organisation and cellular function. Using high-resolution live-cell imaging together with biochemical, genetic, and CRISPR-based approaches, she has identified molecular mechanisms underlying neuronal function and nerve repair while developing innovative RNA engineering technologies with broad translational applications. Dr. Gumy holds a BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry and an MSc in Molecular Genetics from the University of Salamanca (Spain) and a PhD in Neurobiology from the University of Cambridge (UK). She subsequently held a Research Associate position at Cambridge’s Centre for Brain Repair before undertaking a Marie Curie postdoctoral fellowship at Utrecht University (NL). She has published in leading journals including Neuron, Molecular Cell, Nature Microbiology, and Brain. Her research has been supported by competitive funding from the Marsden Fund and the Health Research Council of New Zealand.
