Mary Stephanie S. Carranza is Co-Founder and Managing Director of BIOMATS PH, a Philippine biotechnology startup developing bioprinting technologies and biomaterials for biomedical research. She also serves as Head of the Biomedical Research Unit (BRU) at the Clinical and Translational Research Institute of The Medical City – Ortigas, where she leads research programs supporting translational biomedical innovation. Ms. Carranza is currently leading her own DOST project and is a consultant to several government-funded tissue engineering projects. She previously served as Laboratory Manager (University Researcher II) at the Philippine Genome Center’s Protein, Proteomics, and Metabolomics Facility, supporting national research initiatives in metabolomics and proteomics.

Carranza has over eight years of research experience in protein and polysaccharide-based biomaterials, tissue engineering, bio fabrication, and translational biomedical research. Her expertise includes biomaterial modification, bioink development, 3D cell culture, and 3D bioprinting for next-generation in vitro models. She also serves as a consultant to several tissue engineering projects, with a particular focus on 3D bioprinting.

Her honors include the Leaders in Innovation Fellowship of the Royal Academy of Engineering (2026), the Short-Stay Scholar Award from the Japan Student Services Organization (2025), and recognition as a finalist in the 2021 Merck Young Scientist Award in the Philippines.

Carranza holds a B.S. in Biochemistry and an M.S. in Chemistry, specializing in biomaterials, from De La Salle University – Manila. She also pursued graduate training in biomaterials at Osaka University as a Japanese government (MEXT, Monbukagakusho) scholar.
